Di fronte al Colosseo ho piantato una bandiera italiana in bianco e nero; il basamento su cui poggia, è un tronco di pino segato alla base che da anni fa da piedistallo spontaneo ai milioni di turisti che si avvicendano per la foto di rito. Al posto dei sorrisi e delle pose studiate adesso c’è il vuoto, il vento e i gabbiani. In quello che doveva essere il centro del mondo, ora volteggia un simbolo del dubbio e dell’incertezza.

In front of the Colosseum, I installed a black and white Italian flag; the pine’s log on which it rests has been there for years and used as a pedestal by million of tourists taking the ritual pictures. Instead of the smiling faces and the accurately planned photos poses, there is now a void, together with the wind and the seagulls. A place meant to be the centre of the world, it is now a symbol of doubt and uncertainty swings.
