L’esperienza di un percorso artistico condiviso è ciò che distingue Sottobanco di Iginio De Luca, nato all’interno del progetto ‘Pupille gustative’ del Liceo Argan, con la partecipazione dell’Istituto Alberghiero di Tor Carbone. Solitamente un artista elabora un’idea che sviluppa in seguito, anche attraverso collaborazioni esterne, in questo caso Sottobanco nasce proprio all’interno delle aule del liceo Argan, dopo i primi incontri con gli studenti. Sono stati loro a sollecitare in Iginio De Luca la curiosità, e il rimando a ricordi personali, verso tutto quanto c’è sotto il banco. E nei lunghi mesi di elaborazione, pre e post-pandemia, il progetto ha preso forma coinvolgendo i ragazzi nell’essere loro stessi parte dell’opera. Gli incontri e le riflessioni cominciate sul finire del 2019 evidenziavano quanto l’uso delle piattaforme digitali avesse cambiato le modalità relazionali tra le persone. Il lockdown, sopraggiunto poco dopo, ha tristemente evidenziato la dipendenza da certi sistemi. La vita reale si è sovrapposta ai ricordi e i testi e gli audio dei ragazzi hanno raccontato anche quei mesi interrotti. Ognuno ha condiviso il suo sottobanco, sia che fosse un’idea strettamente personale e intima o piuttosto una dichiarazione di intenti, una presa di posizione. Sottobanco è lo stato di grazia che per alcuni è il momento in cui, da soli, si disegna, si suona uno strumento, si crea una parte di sé. Il silenzio, il rumore dei passi rassicuranti di una persona amata, il mare, le risate o un urlo liberatorio. La formulazione dell’opera finita di Iginio De Luca è il risultato di tutto questo. Nel corso degli incontri, prima reali poi su piattaforma, l’artista ha raccontato il suo personale sottobanco, i suoi ricordi degli anni di scuola ma anche della sua infanzia e adolescenza. Tutti noi presenti abbiamo raccontato parti delle nostre vite e le abbiamo condivise. Un percorso relazionale che nel tempo ha allentato diffidenza e ritrosie, e gli studenti ci sono stati completamente, nel progettare l’opera di De Luca, della quale sono in qualche modo non solo l’ossatura ma anche testa e cuore.

The experience of a shared artistic journey is what distinguishes Sottobanco by Iginio De Luca, born within the ‘Pupille Gustative’ project of the Argan High School, with the participation of the Alberghiero Institute of Tor Carbone. Usually, an artist develops an idea that is later elaborated, also through external collaborations. In this case, Sottobanco was born within the classrooms of the Argan high school, after the initial meetings with the students. It was they who sparked in Iginio De Luca curiosity, and a return to personal memories, towards everything that is under the desk. And in the long months of elaboration, pre and post-pandemic, the project took shape involving the students in being themselves part of the work. The meetings and reflections that began in late 2019 highlighted how the use of digital platforms had changed relational modalities between people. The lockdown, which followed shortly after, sadly highlighted the dependence on certain systems. Real life overlapped with memories, and the texts and audios of the students also recounted those interrupted months. Everyone shared their sottobanco, whether it was a strictly personal and intimate idea or rather a declaration of intent, a stance. Sottobanco is the state of grace that for some is the moment when, alone, they draw, play an instrument, create a part of themselves. Silence, the reassuring footsteps of a loved one, the sea, laughter, or a liberating scream. Iginio De Luca’s formulation of the finished work is the result of all this. During the meetings, first real and then on the platform, the artist recounted his personal sottobanco, his memories of school years but also of his childhood and adolescence. All of us present shared parts of our lives. A relational journey that over time loosened mistrust and reluctance, and the students were fully involved in planning De Luca’s work, of which they are in some way not only the backbone but also the head and heart.
